The Hunt for the Last Steam

The Danish photographer René Strandbygaard has travelled the world for many years, photographing the last steam trains in regular use. In search of pockets of time and environments that were just a few years, months or even weeks away from disappearing. See some of his most impressive photos at the Danish Railway Museum in Odense, Denmark.

Main exhibition at the Finnish Aviation Museum

The Finnish Aviation Museum is an exciting destination for the whole family in Vantaa, near Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport (HEL). Dozens of historical aircrafts in our two exhibition halls will take you through the history of Finnish aviation! Simulator flights are available by pre-order (book at least one week in advance).

Railway: Revolution and Everyday Life

Opening 21 March 2024

"Railway: Revolution and Everyday Life" is the new (revised) railway exhibition in the German Technical Museum's (Berlin, Germany) permanent exhibition. It shows how rail transport fundamentally and forever changed the lives of all people. The revised exhibition covers the period from the beginnings of the railroad 200 years ago to 1914.

Göschenen Makes National History: the 1882 railway tunnel 

Re-opening May 2024

The Swiss Industrial Heritage’s open-air exhibit in Göschenen, Switzerland tells the story of the Gotthard railway tunnel’s construction. Including the sighting tunnel with a blasting show – the strike of 1875. Unlike any other place along the Gotthard railway, the bridges in Göschenen illustrate the development of traffic from the mule track to the road and the railway.

Cold War Scotland


13 July 2024 - 26 January 2025

A new exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland (Edinburgh, Scotland) will explore Scotland's critical position on the frontline of the Cold War. Over 190 objects, many on display for the first time, will be brought together in Cold War Scotland to tell the stories of the Scots at the centre of this global conflict.

Next to the beach - Rides in historic tramways and on a historic branch line railway

Esp. end of May -beginning of September

Located next to the Baltic Sea, the only museum with running historic tramways and historic railways in one place welcomes experts and spectators alike. The former station Schönberger Strand of the Kleinbahn Kiel-Schönberg (1914-1975) now houses among others coaches and locomotives from 1898 to 1960 in running condition. Trams from cities in northern Germany invite visitors to an introduction in the art of tramway driving. Further rides can be booked with the Museumsbahnen Schönberger Strand.
